I chose U of Illinois because this department offers everything that I wanted out of a graduate program. The multidisciplinary approach fits my interests wonderfully and the support that I have received before and after my acceptance here is amazing. The fact that the faculty are so collaborative and supportive creates a great environment to work in!
I chose Illinois because Champaign-Urbana is also a great place to live! It has all of the great shops and restaurants you would find in a large city without the hustle and bustle. The University and surrounding city provide a comfortable atmosphere to work and grow as a graduate student.
As a graduate student in HCD I am amazed by the welcoming atmosphere that both the students and faculty create. I am proud to be a part of a department that is doing so many amazing things not just for the surrounding community, but for the advancement of research as well. I feel like I am at an institution that is going to help and allow me to follow my interests, reach my goals, and excel in the world of academia.
I am professionally involved in The National Council on Family Relations (NCFR) and I am currently the president of the student affiliate of NCFR, the Illinois Student Council on Family Relations.
